At the “Judgment of Paris” tasting held at the Academy du Vin in Paris in 1976, it was Chardonnay of Monterena who won the first place in the wine of the top-class chateau in France.
A style that uses grapes from the coolest area of the Napa Valley, does not undergo malolactic fermentation at all, and retains a sharp acidity.
The use of new barrels is kept below 15% to bring out the original taste of grapes.
